Balos-Gramvousa

In the northwest corner of Crete is the peninsula of Gramvousa, there located the magnificent beach of Balos, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Mediterranean. It has very fine white sand and red, while in the center there is a small lagoon with clear turquoise waters. Opposite the beach of Balos there are two small islands,the first is quite small and rocky, The other is much larger and there is a castle which was built by the Venetians . If you want to visit these two islands and the beach of Balos, you can take one of the ships that organize daily tours, departing from the port of Kissamos. The port of Kissamos refrain 10 minutes from the camping Nopigia . Also you can go by your car from a dirt road and you have to walk for 15 minutes in the end.

 

Elafonisi

In the southwest coast of Crete stretches one of the most magical beaches of the island, a piece of paradise. It is located about 50 minutes from Camping Nopigia and main feature are the sand dunes with the white sand, the crystal water is pink, from the thousands of shells that have been shattered by the years which give a special appearance on the beach. The island Elafonisi is very close to the beach and you can go there on foot. If you want to visit Elafonissi you can use the public bus or to go by your car. Certainly a visit to the exotic beach of Elafonisos will be unforgettable!

 

Falassarna

The beach Falasarna lies northwest of Crete, it is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Crete and in Greece. He has thick white sand with  turquoise crystal clear water, it has the most majestic sunset in Crete. In a very short distance are the ruins of the ancient city of Falasarna and the the ancient port of Polirinia, the name arose from the nymph Falasarna. It is located 20 minutes from the camping Nopigia and you can go by the public bus or by your car.

 

Paleochora

Located in the southwest part of Crete is a small village, there you will find two wonderful beaches with crystal clear waters. Both are awarded with the Blue Flag by the European Union, you can visit many other beaches near the location less known. In Paleochora you can find restaurants, cafes and many shops like banks and supermarkets. There are several routes like the European walking path E4 & E1, there is also daily sea transportation to Sougia, Agia Roumeli, Sfakia, Elafonisi and Gavdos. From camping Nopigia is about 1 hour and you can go by the public bus or by your car.

 

Venetian Port of Chania

The Venetian Port of Chania is one of the most marked areas of the city of Chania, Its construction hapened between 1320 and 1356 by the Venetians to protect the city of Chania. The lighthouse is the hallmark of the city of Chania. Main elements of the exceptional architecture are the surrounding buildings, narrow streets, the Turkish mosque and little further there are the old shipyards, where the Venetians built their ships.  On the left of the port is the fortress of Bastion and next to the Maritime Museum. Today is one of the most developed tourist sites at Chania with many restaurants, taverns, cafes and bars along the sea. Specific the night the view is fantastic! The Venetian port is located 20 minutes from the camping Nopigia.

Chania Town

Chania is the capital of the prefecture of Hania, they located in the north eastern part of the prefecture and they are built on the ruins of ancient Kidonias.  Many support that it is the most beautiful and the most picturesque city in Crete and in Greece , and many cultural events take place each year.
The airport is at Akrotiri and the Port of Souda is the largest in the Mediterranean. Downtown you can see the Municipal Market, with cross-shaped,which built with the standard of the market in Marseilles.
In a very short distance from the city center is the Public Garden adjacent the park of Peace and Friendship of Peoples. The picturesque Venetian harbor is attraction for visitors and locals, both for the beauty and for the choices of entertainment for all tastes and requirements. The old city within the walls retain their Venetian nobility, narrow paved alleys are surrounded with tasteful renewed houses, which leading to the Venetian port and offers a pleasant walk. The Venetian harbor has a lot of restaurants cafes and tourist shops. The camping Nopigia is 20 minutes from the city of Chania.

 

Samaria

The Samaria Gorge is the largest in Europe with 18 km length, the width ranges from 150 until 3 meters. The entrance to the gorge is located at the site Xiloskalo, which is the highest point of plateau with an altitude of 1,200 metre and the course lasts 6-8 hours. From there begins a magical journey, the scenery and nature reveals its greatness, countless shades of green, huge century-old cypress trees, crystal springs with drinking water, huge rocks and tall mountains. It is estimated that the gorge of Samaria there are 450 species of Cretan herbs and 70 of them are growing just there. in 1962 proclaimed a national park  to protect rare flora and fauna. It is the only place that live the Cretan wild goat with the name kri kri, also live many rare bird species.  In the middle of the trail is the village of Samaria which is currently uninhabited. Now the landscape is changing, the two sides of the gorge are comming too close and is creating a door 3 meters and  height of 600 meters. Passing the narrow passage at the bottom you see the blue sea ... after you reach at the village of Agia Roumeli, the gorge has finished and now you are at the Libyan Sea. A bath after the long road is the best in a wonderful beach with sand, black pebbles and crystal clear sea. The camping Nopigia organizes daily excursions for the Samaria Gorge.

Platanias

Is located  11 kilometers west of Chania,  is a seaside village, beautiful and picturesque, which in recent years shows rapid tourism development. The village is built along the beach and has stunning views. You can find Watersports shops, restaurants, cafes and night clubs. The sandy beaches of Platanias attract many people each summer. Is located 15 minutes from camping Nopigia .

 

Rethimnon Prefecture

Rethymno is one of the four prefectures of Crete. Is located west of Chania and  east of Iraklion. The camping Nopigia is approximately one hour from Rethymnon. The capital of the prefecture is Rethimno, located on the north side of the island and is the third largest city of Crete.
From the high mountains until the beautiful beaches somebody can see scattered around the county, monasteries, churches, archaeological sites, Venetian castles and Turkish monuments and of course the real treasure of Rethymno, the residents. In small villages, still maintain the welcoming spirit and have a wonderful legacy with festivities, music and art.

 

Heraklion Prefecture

The prefecture of Heraklion is located in the central part of the island of Crete. from east bordering with Lasithi and west with the prefecture of Rethymno, north there is the Cretan Sea and south there is the Libyan Sea. The Prefecture of Heraklion is the largest of the 4 prefectures of Crete, Heraklion is the capital of the prefecture. It has many remarkable places and many beautiful beaches you can visit, it has also very important archaeological sites like Knossos, Phaistos and Malia. The prefecture of Heraklion is located about 110 minutes from Camping Nopigia.

 

Lasithi

The prefecture of Lassithi is the easternmost part of the island. The capital of the Prefecture is Agios Nikolaos and is built along the harbor in the picturesque bay of Mirabello.
Registered trademark of St. Nicholas is Voulismeni Lake which communicates with the sea with a beautiful bridge. It is a very picturesque part with many outdoor cafes and restaurants along the coast.
It has also some other places you can visit like the city of Elounda, Ierapetra, Sissi and Sitia. The county, however, offers quiet beaches as the Vai palm forest, the island of Spinalonga the famous forest of pines and some archaeological and historical sites like the palace of Zakros, Agia Triada and the only Toplou. The prefecture of Lassithi is located about 2 hours and forty minutes from Camping Nopigia.
